ESTADIO NOU SARDENYA – CE Europa

5. Estadio Nou Sardenya – Halfway between the Sagrada Familia and the Parc Guell, and thus superbly located for those who feel like visiting the more conventional tourist attractions, is the home of CE Europa. It is also, as you can see, a perfect example of how to make the very most of a pretty small space in the centre of a big city. This club has spent nearly its entire existence in the Tercera Division; however amazingly it did beat Barcelona not once but twice in the late 90s to win the Copa Catalunya, on one occasion triumphing against a team which included the likes of internationals Reiziger, Sergi, Couto and Amor.

However this season things are not going so well, and there is a very real threat of relegation to the regional Catalan leagues, a level at which they have played only seven times in their 84 year history. Regardless of where they end up playing next season, I suspect that the club will still have the same welcoming feel mentioned by all I have spoken to who have visited it – there is again a sense that it is very much at the heart of the local community, with ladies and youth matches also available for your perusal before and after the main event should you so choose. Entry to the ground will cost you no more than ten euros.
