4 – RONALDINHO

Ronaldo de Assis Moreira joined Barcelona in 2003 after a two-year spell with Paris Saint-Germain.

Club President Joan Laporta had initially prioritised signing David Beckham but after losing him to Real, Barca made an offer believed to be in the region of €30m outbidding Manchester United for the Brazilian’s services.

It would prove to be a blessing for the Catalans as Ronaldinho’s flair and creativity would delight fans as Barcelona won two league titles and the Champions League during his five year spell in the city. He was also named FIFA World Player of the Year in 2004 and 2005.

Ronaldinho’s final season was plagued by injuries and at the end of the campaign Laporta stated that the Brazilian needed a new challenge to revive his career. In July 2008 he departed for Milan in a £25.5m deal, in 2010 Ronaldinho wrote an open to the club and their fans stating that his five years in Catalonia were the best of his career.
