Chelsea midfielder dreams of La Liga return

Chelsea midfielder Oriol Romeu ‘dreams’ of  a return to the Camp Nou according to Barcelona-based daily, SPORT.

The la Masia graduate left Barcelona last summer when Chelsea paid the Catalan giants a reported €5million to take the 20-year-old to Stamford Bridge.

Barca insisted on a buy-back clause in the deal however and reports from SPORT yesterday suggested they were pondering the option to activate that clause, said to be €10 million – should they fail in their pursuit of Athletic Club’s Javi Martinez.

Now Romeu is quoted on the Catalan newspaper’s website as saying he would be tempted by a return to the club he joined from neighbours Espanyol in 2004.

“A return to Barca is an option but it depends on many things as I want to play football. I will always be a cule though and I am very grateful to FC Barcelona for getting me where I am today.”

The defensive midfielder also said he would be willing to play in central defence should it lead to his Camp Nou return, especially as he played in that position as a youngster.

There has been no official statement from Barcelona yet however Romeu has confirmed the existence of the buy-back clause inserted in the deal last year.

“Barcelona have the option to buy me back and I left knowing I always had that option. If they still have confidence in me, as they showed by leaving the option open, then they should let me know.”

Romeu played 16 times under Roberto Di Matteo last season and was part of the Chelsea squad that won the 2012 Uefa Champions League Final in Munich.
