Barcelona close to signing Serie A star?

Spanish daily SPORT are reporting this evening that the representative of Parma midfielder Sebastian Geovinco is in Barcelona to discuss a transfer to the Catalan capital.

Given that Geovinco has been rumoured for several weeks to be on the ‘blaugrana’ wish list, this claim comes as no surprise.

However an intriguing twist is added by the fact that contact appears to have been made less than a week before the talented 25 year old may well line up against a number of his future team mates, with Spain kicking off the defence of their European crown against the Italians in Gdansk on Sunday.

Any move for Geovinco will be complicated by the fact that he is also partially owned by Juventus, who would certainly be interested in buying him outright were he shine over the next month on top of what has been a fine Serie A campaign.

However his versatility and in particular his ability to play wide on the right would seem to make him an ideal fit for Barcelona at a time when they also continue to be linked with Valencia’s Jordi Alba, who would be likely to occupy the other flank.
