Man United look to beat big guns to wonderkid

Manchester United are stepping up their efforts to sign Brazilian wonderkid Lucas Moura according to reports from the Mail Online.

An Old Trafford delegation is due to arrive in South America on Tuesday as United look to beat the likes of Real Madrid, Chelsea and Inter to the signing of the highly-rated 19-year-old.

United were originally told by the player’s father that he favoured a move to the Spanish champions however it now appears they have turned their attentions to Luka Modric, a player also coveted by Sir Alex Ferguson in the past.

Competition could come from Italy with Inter said to preparing a £20 million bid for Lucas, who is also believed to be interesting current European Champions, Chelsea.

Lucas told Brazilian website, Estadao: ‘You never know what can happen. I don’t have a crazy desire to leave but, when the time comes, I will speak with my family and decide what is best for my future.

“Of course I think about it, but I can’t let it go to my head. I’m very calm and down to earth about it. My job is to play football so that these clubs continue to be interested.”

The midfielder’ agent Wagner Ribeiro is known to have a close working relationship with both Chelsea and Real Madrid, however the Stamford Bridge side have now agreed a deal with fellow Brazilian Oscar who plays for Internacional.

United are due to go on their pre-season tour to North America next week and are said to want to tie up the signing of Lucas before the start of the Olympics later this month.
