Chelsea are planning a move to bring Real Madrid defender Pepe to the Premier League, according to media reports this morning.

Andres Villas-Boas has been alerted to the Portuguese international’s availability as the player’s relationship with the Spanish club becomes ever more strained, and is readying a summer move to bring him to Stamford Bridge according to The People.

It was reported yesterday that Jose Mourinho was also interested in bringing Chelsea defender Luiz to the Bernabeu and a swap deal involving Pepe may prove an ideal opportunity for both parties.

The 28-year-old has been dogged by controversy after a number of high profile misdemeanours on the pitch, and has faced criticism from large sections of the Spanish media.

Luiz has had an inconsistent start to his career at Stamford Bridge and has so far done little to repay the €25 million Chelsea paid Benfica for his services.
