Arsenal have signed former Barcelona youngster Jon Toral on professional terms the club have announced today.

The 17-year-old arrived at the Emirates Stadium last summer and has impressed Arsene Wenger enough to earn a professional contract at the club.

Toral has scored three goals in 18 games for Arsenal’s under-18 side this season and made his reserve team debut for the Gunners last month.

The midfielder joined the famed La Masia academy in 2003 and played in the club’s junior sides before the London club made an approach – something which is said to have infuriated the reigning Spanish champions.

Catalan-born Toral will now hope to follow in the footsteps of Cesc Fabregas, who starred for Arsenal before moving back to the Catalan giants following a somewhat acrimonious transfer during the summer.
