The aforementioned Beckham moved to the Bernabeu in 2003 as part of the Galacticos revolution at the club. After a well publicised fallout with Alex Ferguson, potential suitors lined up to tempt the versatile winger. It was Madrid who beat off teams, including rivals Barcelona, to win his signature for a modest £25,000,000.

Though the galacticos era is generally viewed as a failure, Beckham’s time in Spain was successful. He established himself as an integral part of a fearsome Real Madrid team, and won a league title in his time there.
