2 – XAVI HERNANDEZ

Xavi signed for Barcelona at the age of 11 and has spent his entire career with the Catalan club.

After impressing in the B side that won promotion to second division he soon went on to make his debut for the senior side in the 1998 Spanish Super Cup against Real Mallorca. He scored a goal setting himself up perfectly for a breakthrough season in which he would play a key role as Barcelona retained the league title.

Xavi is widely recognised as one of the most accomplished players in the game with excellent vision and passing ability.

An injury to Pep Guardiola in the 1999-2000 gave Xavi a prolonged run in the side and Guardiola’s departure to Brescia a year later meant Xavi was now the first choice playmaker at the age of just 21.

Xavi has gone on to make over 400 league appearances for Barcelona and has earned 108 caps for the Spanish national side.

He has lifted six league titles and has been the foundation of Barcelona’s dominance in Spain and Europe in recent years winning an impressive three Champions League titles in six years as well as five Spanish Super Cups, two UEFA Cups and a Copa del Rey.
