9 – MICHAEL LAUDRUP

Alongside Stoichkov, Laudrup was a major cog in the Barcelona ‘dream team’ that won four successive league titles between 1991 and 1994 under the management of Johan Cruyff.

Joining the club from Juventus in 1989, Laudrup was deployed as a free role. A typical Barcelona forward, he was blessed with great technical ability and provided goals and assists in his 167 appearances for the side.

Named Player of the Year on two occasions during his time in Catalonia. Laudrup also won the Copa del Rey in 1990 and European Cup in 1992 in addition to two Spanish Super Cups and a UEFA Super Cup.

Laudrup’s Barcelona career ended acrimoniously however, as UEFA rules of the time meant only three foreign players could be selected in a side, Romario’s transfer to the club in 1993 led to diminished game time for the Dane.

Being dropped for the 1994 European Cup final – a 4-0 defeat to AC Milan – would prove to be the final straw for Laudrup as a row with Cruyff which followed would result in a controversial switch to bitter rivals Real Madrid.
